Fish of the genus Parablennius of the family Dog-like (Blenniidae) suborder Dog-like (Blennioidei) order Dog-like (Blenniiformes) superorder Thorny (Acanthopterygii).

Common sea dog (Parablennius sanguinolentus) was first described in 1814 by the German and Russian naturalist and traveler Peter Simon Pallas (Peter Simon Pallas, 1741-1811).

It lives at depths of up to 1 meter. It keeps near the border of a pebble bottom and filamentous algae. The maximum recorded length is 20 cm; specimens up to 12.5 cm are more common. It feeds mainly on algae.
